Hiking

In the heart of the bushveld, and yet so close to both Johannesburg and Pretoria, the Horseback Africa lodge residents can enjoy a hiking trail called the Blue Trail where one can experience unspoilt nature at it’s best within our province.

It is an interesting three-kilometer hike from the stables and over a mountain and then back onto a country road heading “home” again. There is always the chance of meeting a giraffe on the way, and the scenery is spectacular all year round. This hike is free for residents in the lodge.

Fishing

If you are looking for a way to de-stress, stay fit, and enjoy being outside, fishing might just be for you. There are 6 reasons why fishing is a great way to improve your mental and physical well-being.

  1. Fishing keeps you fit - It engages the shoulders, back, arms, core and legs in an active workout.
  2. Fishing increases your vitamin D Even when skies are grey, being outside means your body can top up on critical Vitamin D reserves. Vitamin D helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in your body, keeping your bones and teeth healthy. It boosts your immune system and has been linked to fighting depression.
  3. Fishing improves your concentration - Being outside and taking notice of the environment around you improve your ability to concentrate,
  4. Fishing reduces stress - 40% of adults lie awake at night through stress but just being near water lowers anxiety and instills a sense of calm.
  5. Fishing improves your self esteem - Fishing is all about personal goals, and attaining those goals is a sure fire way to improve self-esteem.
  6. Fishing lets you unplug - Leave your computer and emails behind, and let your eyes rest on the gently sparkling water.
